Flashing ROMs on HTC Desire and Archos G8 101

I have posted some stuff on this before ... but this weekend and did some more flashing on our two oldest but still active Android devices ...

The first one up was the HTC Desire, which I already had given some more app space (see older post), but still this was not enough as today's apps tend to become increasingly larger ... so I looked around for a better solution and found one here: http://supernova.droidzone.in/
It's called Supernova and is based on the stock HTC Gingerbread incl. Sense for the Desire but with some added features (see link for a full list), most important feature being the increased memory for apps, using Data2SD on EXT4. It's been running fine and I would consider it a huge improvement, even though running apps from your SD will not make your device run faster (it's also not terribly slow, but it is noticeable).
Anyway, it allows the device to be used a bit longer until we'll replace it (probably by the end of the year).

Next one up was the Archos G8 101. Problem with this one is that there is no ROM available which has actually been designed for tablets ... so you're stuck with 2.2 (or 2.3 at the most), which is a bummer as true tablet-optimized apps & widgets do require min. 3.0. Now, I'm sure the hardware is fit to actually run ICS or Jelly Bean, the problem is Archos won't do it, as they have newer models (G9) out and they want you to buy those ... and for the developpers of modified roms, the problem is that these devices are too different in terms of hardware from other devices (running on 4.0/4.1), so it's quite difficult to port anything from those to this one ...this has been the main reason why so far I didn't put any effort into running anything else then stock. But as frustrations regarding the various limitations tend to buildup, I started considering alternative ROMs anyway ...
And yes, also this device will be replaced (probably by an iPad) eventually, but that's not really a high priority, so we'll wait for the next one to come out first.
So after browsing through the currently available alternatives, I ended up installing UrukDroid 1.6.1, which can be found here: http://code.google.com/p/urukdroid/wiki/WhatIsUruk

I must say, the install is really simple and it works great. So anyone still using an Archos G8 (or am I the only one left?) try it! As it runs in Dev mode, you can even swith back to stock, just by booting your orginal ROM from the bootloader, so essentially you have multi-boot.
